Questionnaires about Development Education and Awareness Raising in Europe- 2003

The questionnaire has been circulated to 20 European national platforms of NGDOs, out of which 16 answered (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom- Missing data from: Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Spain).

The questionnaire does not claim to lead to scientific nor exhaustive results. It represents a picture of what is currently done in Europe in the Title "Development Education". It is a static picture and does not take into account the evolution of the last 5-10 years, which is of particular importance to the main themes and target groups.

The aggregated results can serve as basis of any discussion about Development Education in Europe and support an attempt to achieve a common European definition. To this respect, some possible working definition have been suggested. They differ as to the form and phrasing but are substantially similar, proving that besides the obvious differences due to the history and cultural background of each country Development Education NGOs in Europe share a common ground and very similar objectives.
